Yoga for pregnancy

Yoga and pregnancy – a good match! The ancient art/science dates back over 3000 years, and unlike many other forms of exercise, Yoga restores energy and settles the nervous system in preparation for the birth.

This is an ideal opportuntiy to take care of your health and well-being. With its unique use of props and sequencing, Iyengar yoga is a perfect way to help release stress and releave strain.

After the intial stages of pregnancy; once the tiredness and sickness have subsided, students can enjoy a supported practice which accommodates the growth of the baby. Our classes provide a range of poses to promote good posture and improved circulation. Other benefits include alleviating some of the most common niggles which can arise during pregnancy, namely heatburn, backache, and fatique.

By developing better muscular strength and working on new breathing techniques, 'mums to be' are better equipped and prepared for not only the birth but also the period of recovery after the labour.

If you are pregnant and new to yoga, we recommend that you attend our restorative yoga class once you're in the second trimester (after 14 weeks). This class is held on a Tuesday Evening at 6pm

Always seek out a qualified and experienced teacher. The Iyengar Yoga Association (UK) will have listings of teachers in your area. 'Mums to be' need to listen to their bodies, and avoid overstretching, as during pregnancy the ligaments around the joints become loose and soft. The abdomen should stay relaxed at all times.
