One of the most respected methods in the world today, considered unique for its approach it focuses on the correct precision and alignment of the body. The Institute in Pune, India, founded by B.K.S Iyengar still has input into the training of our teachers, who spend many years working to rigorously high standards to ensure their own practice and teaching ability meet the exacting requirements of the Iyengar method.
Through the practice of postures (asanas) the body is taught to open, extend and lengthen. This helps to improve breathing, circulation and bodily functions.
Through regular practice students find that they gain strength and agility as well as enhancing both physical and mental well being.
At the beginning of each class there is a settling time, the class will then proceed through a combination of demonstration and instruction. Our teachers are experienced and fully qualified to help students with their progress. They may verbally instruct or give physical adjustments with the use of props such as blankets, bolsters, belts or chairs.
Something comfortable, like a T-shirt and shorts, or leggings – yoga is always taught in barefeet.
@studio. Our studio is fully equipped. However, since the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus, we ask that each student who attends an @studio class brings their own mat, yoga belt, four foam pads and a blanket. We sell this equipment at the centre if you do not already have your own. On your first few visits, you are welcome to borrow these items from the centre.
@home. For those working @home, you can generally make do with a mat. If you can find them, a tie or rope, a kitchen or dining chair and a couple of clean, rectangular washing up bowls may come in handy.
Try to give a heavy meal about 4 hours to digest before class, or a couple of hours for a snack or drink.
Restoring balance – stress related illnesses can interrupt the body’s balance – an overload on the nervous system leaves many people feeling stripped of vitality. Yoga has all the components which help with many physical and mental conditions alongside reducing anxiety and muscular tension. With regular practice people experience positive results.
Through regular practice both the circulatory and
respiratory systems become healthier and the body is better prepared to fight off diseases.
Yoga can improve many conditions. It is always best to advise your teacher of any health concerns you may have. Iyengar yoga teachers are trained to modify and suggest alternative postures to enable you to practice safely. STANDARD CLASSES ARE GENERALLY NOT APPROPRIATE FOR PREGNANCY.
If you have been coming to class regularly and you become pregnant, please talk to your teacher as soon as possible.
Ladies need to advise their teacher when menstruating so that suitable poses can be applied.
How do I start?

@studio classes take place in the studio, face to face with a teacher. Spaces are very limited so you need to book early, free trials do not apply to these classes and they are non-refundable. All @studio classes may be filmed although the camera is focused on the teacher not the students.

If you have booked a virtual class and have since found you are unable to attend – Our cancellation option operates up to an hour before class begins (go to your booking page).
LiveStream classes can be booked from the Timetable, it is best to give yourself some time to set up before class begins. Half an hour before class begins the “Join Now” link will appear on your Booking area. Click this link and it will take you to the Zoom page on your web browser. Click on the “open zoom.us” pop-up button and after a few moments you will see a notification telling you that the host knows you are waiting and will admit you to the meeting shortly.

You don’t need a lot of space – just have your device (computer, laptop, tablet, phone), positioned so the camera gets as much of your body in as possible.
