"As a well cut diamond has many facets, each reflecting a different colour of light, so does the word Yoga, each reflecting a different shade of meaning and revealing different aspects of the entire range of human endeavour to win inner peace and happiness." - BKS Iyengar

With the high pace of modern life, Yoga can provide a maintenance program enabling the body to be healthy and free from stress and illness. Iyengar Yoga is a form of Hatha Yoga, which concentrates on the alignment of the body.  It will encourage good posture, build strength and flexibility as well as having a profound effect on your general well being.

The eight stages (or limbs) of Yoga

This initiates a path of practice, which as a yoga practitioner should be followed to reach physical and emotional stability, a path that unites body and mind in a journey that enhances all senses and ultimate self-realization.

Yama - universal moral principles such as non-violence and truthfulness

Niyama - rules of personal conduct, this applies to oneself, such as self study, dedication, contentment and purity

Asana - the practice of Yoga postures

Pranayama - the practice of breathing techniques

Pratyahara - control of senses from external objects

Dharana - concentration of the mind. The mind has to be stilled in order to achieve a state of complete absorption

Dhyana - meditation leading to a state of supreme bliss

Samadhi - the peak of meditation which leads to a state of higher consciousness.

Regular practice of Yoga will improve bodily functions and help to eliminate many stress related symptoms such as insomnia, digestive disorders, lower back problems, increasing energy levels which bring vitality to assist you in your everyday tasks.
